Up For Sale – Atari Game Properties

Atari is no longer Atari. The Atari as we know it is dead. The Atari that lives today is a company owned by a French Company that changed its name to Atari SA. The US branch is called Atari Inc. Yeah the whole company is one giant mess. If you have seen Atari on any games lately just know its a French company looking to profit off the name.

Now that Atari has failed to find a buyer for the whole catalog of games they are now selling off properties one by one. The only titles mentioned are RollerCoaster Tycoon, Test Drive and Total Annihilation. Atari also wants to sell other properties seperate from this main auction.

What will each franchise cost:

  • RollerCoaster Tycoon – $3.5 million
  • Test Drive – $1.5 million
  • Total Annihilation – $250,000

Atari seeks a minimum of $22.2 million total in the auction. In previous bids no one bid high enough that Atari deemed appropriate. I’m not a business man but if there is one thing I have learned over the years is “Your assets are only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it”. With that said let’s all say our goodbyes to the original gaming publisher and move on.
